Online Therapy for Individuals and Couples
Yes it is! With the advent of Telehealth, there have been several studies that have researched how effective teletherapy, and specifically, video therapy sessions are. Here is some of the research we found, as discussed in a recent article by the American Psychological Association,
- The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs found the two methods are equally as effective when they compared PTSD interventions conducted with in-person and video therapy (Turgoose, D., et al., Journal of Telemedicine and Telecare, Vol. 24, No. 9, 2018)
- Video and In-Person therapies are equally as effective for depression, anxiety and adjustment disorder (Varker, T., et al., Psychological Services, Vol. 16, No. 4, 2019).
- Video and In-Person therapies are equally as effective for substance use, eating disorders and other problems in children and adolescents (Slone, N.C., et al., Psychological Services, Vol. 9, No. 3, 2012).
After conducting teletherapy sessions since mid March 2020, we have found that our clients get as much out of their video sessions as they did when meeting in-person.
