Headshot of Kristen Hick

Dr. Kristen Hick, Psy.D.

Owner, Director, Licensed Psychologist (Pronouns: She, Her, Hers)

"My journey in relationship work began long before I put on my high school cap and gown. Always interested in the dating issues of friends, wanting to ease and "fix" family conflict, and then later, personally struggling to break free of unhealthy dating patterns, I've been studying relationships all my life - inside and outside of the classroom. It was through working on my relationship with myself that I found true transformation in my relationships.

Now, its my mission to help others with dating and relationship concerns - recognizing toxic and unhealthy patterns, teaching clients how to put their needs first, building healthy relationships and skills, coping with break-ups and divorce, and recovering from relationship loss in way that dramatically enhances your future relationships. My goal is to help clients heal, strengthen and transform their relationship with themselves and with the loved ones in their life - and beyond."

Dr. Kristen Hick provides specialized treatment for:

  • Relationship challenges - dating, relationships, break-ups and divorce
  • Trauma and Abuse
  • Pregnancy and Postpartum Health
  • Anxiety and Depression
  • Attachment Styles

Dr. Hick's approach focuses on helping you understand what is happening and why - there is no wizard behind the curtain here. She helps you understand how someone else provided this relationship model to you long ago and how, despite your best attempts to make this model work, it's not. She helps you learn how to change your model and how to apply it to build healthier, secure, satisfying and enduring relationships for the rest of your life.

Dr. Hick is passionate about her work and feels honored to be a part of each client's journey, knowing how hard and vulnerable it feels to take the first step to get help. Her therapeutic style is described as a balance of warmth, understanding and a gentle push towards change. Her approach focuses on building a strong working relationship with clients, which provides the foundation to explore, process, and change patterns.

Dr. Kristen Hick, Psy.D, is a Doctor of Psychology, a Licensed Psychologist in Colorado, and Director of Center of Shared Insight, PC. Following obtaining her master’s and doctoral degrees, Dr. Hick completed a nationally certified, APA-accredited Predoctoral Internship and APPIC-accredited Postdoctoral Fellowship. She's worked in community mental health centers, sexual assault and intimate partner violence centers, and group practices. Previously, Dr. Hick was an adjunct faculty member at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology from 2009-2012. She is also involved in A Home Within, a program providing long-term psychotherapy to individuals involved in the foster care system, pro bono.

Dr. Hick enjoys the Colorado outdoors, especially skiing, hiking, and camping, spending time with her family, and practicing yoga - and hopes to one day master an unassisted headstand.

She is a nationally-recognized featured expert contributor to online publications including The Good Men Project, MeetMindful, Digital Romance, and YOGAnonymous. Dr. Hick recently published a free ebook about fearless living and loving, which is available as a free download.

Mr. Barley

Therapy Dog In-Training

Barley is Dr. Hick's therapy dog in training. Therapy dogs have many benefits, such as calming your heart rate, reducing blood pressure, and they are excellent resources to help clients who experience anxiety and trauma ground when they are feeling overwhelmed, dysregulated, panicky, or dissociated. Barley is working on his manners, so while he may want to jump in your lap for cuddles, Dr. Hick keeps his four paws on the ground.

David Rakofsky, Psy.D.

"Having known Dr. Kristen Hick for nearly the last decade, I have been fortunate enough to watch the passion (at some points, literally watching at her side) and focus this psychologist takes in caring for her clients, everyday. She demonstrates an unswerving commitment to traveling difficult terrain with some highly sensitive and injured people, while always adhering to the professional ethics of our discipline. Helping to navigate the difficult straits of close relationships—with some who are stuck in a fatiguing churn of online dating, the painful process of a break-up or divorce, or with others too gun shy from trauma and pain to even begin to engage in becoming vulnerable through relationships—is an area Dr Hick has become expert in over her career. As a result of her attention to this area of everyday life, she now possesses a highly attuned and expansive vocabulary for the patterns she has seen emerge in her clients. The result of all this focus on relationships? A way to help adults, longing for relationships of substance and safety, create new, healthier relationship patterns as they go through their lives."
